Sense and remembrance.
Because store sales had all but quelled,
a picnic for the staff was held.
We closed the store and ere the dark
took buns and dogs to Pine Lake Park.

(I’m manager of Consequence,
  an outlet selling common sense.
  It comes in sizes fit for all;
  it combats arrogance and gall.)

(And there are many colors, too;
  most popular--Red, white, and blue.
  Yet many put sense out to play
  as if life were a holiday.)

We found a table ‘neath blue sky;
an American flag flew high.
Not far away an old man cried;
we gave our thanks to all who died.
