She
I
Us
Hand
And hand
A woman
A man
Kindred souls
Spirits known
Unto each other
Disgruntled lovers
No time
Not in season
Little is the reason
Consummation
Such a ridiculous
Undertaking
Out of love
We’ve fallen
Now
It’s just the motions
Familiar provocations
Like wild animals
Just in passing
Part of instinct
Meaning
Little to nothing
Hand
And hand
Once we stood
Her and I
In the house of God
Swore allegiance
To his will
His might
For better or worse
Now it’s worse
Terrible indeed
This is no dream
But all nightmare
Our kids
Ignorance
Such bliss
They don’t understand
God’s supple plan
Giver of life
Burdening to some
A promise
Cannot be broken
Under any circumstance
At least
That’s what we believe
And our belief
Is stronger than most
So here we are
Hand and hand
Ten years down
Nine more to go
Our youngest
Will someday fly
This prison coop
And once he does
There will nothing left
To keep us as one
Nothing of course
But our promise
To God and each other
For better or worse
Till death do us part
Hand and hand
At least
That was the plan…
