some random thoughts
Do you recall when we first met?
I caught your eye and then
I turned away and turned to see
and turned (like a dead hen)—
I spun so fast you caught me tight
and held my eye again.

Our first date was a meal and chat
that started with the treat
we talked so long they kicked us out
(some other souls to seat)
I love to talk with you, my dear,
your conversation’s sweet.

Our wedding day was capped by rain
(the weather sirens blew)
but when I walked toward you, dear,
the sun shone bright and true
a chartreuse day turned into light
and warmth and star-dance blue

I never dreamed we’d mesh so well
from such a dizzy start
you wrought a web I couldn’t break
a line through both our hearts
and though we have our separate dreams
we share too much to part.

I checked the calendar last week
and had to stop and laugh
months had passed and weeks and days
(like leaves through a giraffe)
I can’t believe I’ve known you now
a decade and a half.
