A poem telling the high-points of Queen Mary I's life for the "A Very British Challenge."
Write a story (min 750 words) or poem (min 20 lines) featuring a British queen.

Queen Mary I/Bloody Mary

First queen regnant of the British,
Mary, Mary, Catherine's Mary.
Henry VIII, her dad, was brutish.
She was born in February.

Once a princess, then a servant.
Mary, Mary, red-haired Mary.
She bided her time and remained observant,
Waited til Henry and son were buried.

Though Lady Grey she did depose.
Mary, Mary, cousin Mary.
The crown wasn't Grey's to suppose.
Then prince of Spain so did she marry.

A Catholic was he, as should be,
Mary, Mary, Catholic Mary.
Though Protestant had she been told to be,
And Catholic England had 'come so weary.

Under Mary, hundreds died.
Mary, Mary, Bloody Mary.
But years she ruled were only five.
Sis 'lizabeth the crown did she next carry.
