I am (not?) a villain

As my story came to a close
I realized
I was the villain all along.

I was invisible and
slipped into everyone's apartments
And put fake spiders on people's beds
And then did the same to
their toilet seats
in the middle of the night
so they get scared.

I sprinkled green water onto people's beds
And put red dye into
their toilet bowl
water so they think
they're bleeding.
Then took a bite- but just one-
out of all the food they have
in their fridge
and once I was done,
rearranged their furniture.
Really, their sense of decor,
it is absolutely horrifying-
they should be thanking me!

And yet, as I retell this tale,
I realize people may not agree with me.
Alas, my efforts were wasted,
and I am now the villain, even if
I had pure and good intentions!
