Feelings are like a heartbeat.
I feel like a heart that is worn with age,

One that tries to thump away the pain,

But it's beat is slow and flat like a shallow ocean wave.

Sometimes it flutters into the air,

Its wings nearly hiding the dark.

But its wings are frail and shaky,

For it was never meant to fly.

Sometimes it plummets through the world,

Falling into the all-encompassing jaws of sorrow,

But it's always caught just in time.

Sometimes it lies still.

It lies silent, spreading whispers through my mind.

It lies cold, spreading numbness through my senses.

It lies dead, and I'm left feeling nothing.
