Time

“Home just in time!” Ted whispered.

“There is going to be trouble. Look up,” Andy said. There in the window was their younger sister Susan.

“Is she going to get us in trouble again?”

“Maybe we can bribe her this time…”

“With what? Mom and Dad give her stuff all the time.”

“There’s one thing they can’t give her.”

“What?”

“Jeremy Wheeler.”

“Huh?”

“She has a big crush on Jeremy Wheeler.”

“We don’t even know Jeremy Wheeler.”

“She doesn’t know that. We tell her if she keep quiet we can get her a date with him.”

“And when it doesn’t happen? She’ll tell on us.”

“It would take weeks. It would at least buy us time! Mom and Dad won’t won’t do anything after all that time. She may even get in trouble for trying to get us in trouble.”

“Oooh, I like the way you think!”

“Me too…” came a tinny voice from nearby.

“Who’s there!” said Ted, whirling around. There, hanging on the gate was a walkie-talkie. He whipped around and saw Susan up in the window, she waved her walkie-talkie, then said, “And better yet, I recorded your whole conversation this time.”

“Why!?”

“I’m practicing to be a spy!”

Just then Dad walked out. “What are you boys doing out here at this time of night?”

“They’re helping me learn to be a spy,” came a tinny voice.

“Is that you, Susan?”

“Yes, look up in my window!”

The boys got away with sneaking out, well, one last time. Dad continued to be mostly confused all the time. Susan got so good at spying, she hated everybody by the time she graduated, and went off to live alone in the mountains. There, she met up with Jeremy Wheeler one more time, and then, time stood still. Time
