On December 24, 1968 astronauts took a picture of Earth from the moon.
Earthrise:
55 Years Later

I view the photo again,
after almost fifty-five years
and ask:
"Did it contribute to my world view?"

Earth suspended
against the ebony background
of interstellar space,
reveals the planet
without human created boundaries.

I know this photograph
engendered the environmental movement;
did it also
help me to view
Earth as a single country?

Am I a world citizen
because of this picture?
