I was no higher than her knee as my dad choked my mom. I stood taller than I knew I could.
One hand around her throat,
And a fist behind his head.
Forming who I was,
And still am today.
“If you hurt my mum again,”
Going from fear to seeing red,
“I'll get a big gun...
And I'll shoot you dead!”
Words from a child,
I wish I never had to say.
To protect her back then,
And still do today.
Soon, she will be gone,
Although, I know she'll be OK.
The courage instilled in me,
Will never go away
