a poem about a child who survived childhood abuse.

Innocence stolen; little girl lost.

I don't remember when it started, my introduction to the world.

I do remember that I was never the same again.

Innocence stolen; little girl lost.

I no longer held my head to the sky.

I no longer saw beauty.

I began to despise the sun and all it stood for.

Innocence stolen; little girl lost.

A smile and laughter that had once lit up the room, lost its way.

Innocence stolen; little girl lost.

Dancing in the kitchen on the feet of the ONE who held my trust became a warning of what was to come.

I would no longer trust fully the touch of a man's hand.

Innocence stolen; little girl lost.

I began to wonder the earth aimlessly, searching for love in the way I was taught.

I had no idea what love was.

Innocence stolen; little girl lost.

It wasn't my fault; I didn't cause it.

My mantra for the rest of my life, to remind me I was just a little girl.

Innocence stolen; little girl lost.

I am going to find her!

I am going to hug her!

"You're safe now little one!"
