Flowers for My Lady



Flowers for my lady

I bring from afar.

Flowers for my lady

I pretend that's what these are.

Raggedy roses crushed flat

Borrowed from an old straw hat.


Autumn leaves, dandelion,

Gentle breeze, kite twine.

Marbles chipped,

My heart's flipped.

On my knees . . .

Love me please?


Yesterday

Off the cuff

Called my bluff

Can't you see

That's not the way

To woo me?
