Locked Out

“The door is locked.”

“Don’t be silly.”

“I’m not kidding, it’s locked!” Jim said.

“It’s never locked! Here let me try it…. OK, it’s locked…” Janice finally said, “Do you have a key?”

“No. Why would I? We haven’t locked this door in thirty years!”

“Well, I know you do have some keys on your keychain that you don’t know what they go to…”

“Yeah, but I know it’s not this. Door keys look different.”

“Oh, well, we’ll have to go around. Jimmy won’t be home from work yet, he always goes out to dinner with friends on Fridays”

“Oh, right. You don’t suppose the back door is locked too, do you?”

“I don’t even think the back door has a knob that locks. I think the last time it broke we just put one on from the spare room, there’s no lock.”

“Oh yeah, good, we can get in. I’m so tired I could fall asleep on the sofa right now.”

“Be my guest, I’m certainly too tired to cook a dinner!” Off they went to the back yard.

“Surprise!” yelled every neighbor, many of their friends, and Jimmy, who set up the surprise party to honor their fortieth wedding anniversary!

As they stood there in awe, Jim leaned in to Janice and whispered, “There goes my nap…”

Nobody ever knew why Janice started laughing so hard, except Jim.

And so goes a wonderful marriage.
