Dedicated to my Mother - May her memory be eternal.
Mighty Oak

In a forest clearing
A mighty oak grows.
What will become of it
Only nature knows.

She grows tall and matures
Producing acorns
Which become saplings
Growing towards the sky.

As her strong branches
Protected all from harm
Her roots kept them anchored
From going too far.

Yet, unpredictable nature
Takes its toll
And separates saplings
As they start you get old.

Change is not sudden
Sometimes it’s unclear
Loved ones move away
And some disappear.

As the mighty oak grew older
Her roots stayed strong
Yet, her brittle branches
Sang a different song.

Those branches were memories
Some were lost and not found
Others whisked away
And strewn around.

Torrential rain wore her down
And River appeared
Bringing them together
To a place very near.
