Tribute to a mother's love weaving wisdom and identity with the eternal rhythm of the sea

Written for the daughter of a friend who passed away recently.

Marina

Marina die naam van die see
Sal altyd voortleef met elke gety
My moeder het my haar naam gegee
Wat 'n voorreg om haar naam te vereer
Haar liefde nou, in my wanhoop te versterk
Haar stralende glimlag vreugde in my verwerk
Wysheid het sy my geleer om my weg te baan
Sodat ek nou my pad voorentoe kan verstaan
Ek mis haar met my hele hart tot in my siel
Om haar weer te sien kyk ek in die spie
Alles wie en wat sy was, in my vasgel
Al haar liefde, dade en woorde in my bel
Ek is sy en sy is ek, die naam van die see
So is sy altyd by my in al my wee

Marina

Marina, the name of the sea
Will endure with every tide
My mother gave me her name
What a privilege to honour her name
Her love now strengthens me in despair
Her radiant smile weaves joy within me
Wisdom, she taught to carve my path
So now I understand my journey ahead
I miss her with my whole heart to my soul
To see her again, I look in the mirror
Everything she was, embedded in me
All her love, deeds, and words invested in me
I am she, and she is I, the name of the sea
She is always be with me, in all my ways.
