Thinking of a recently passed friend and of everyone else I love.
I cannot read death as mystery,
having seen tomorrow's dawn.
I cannot feel the empty loss
from where life leads me on.

The corridor isn't empty
although I stand alone.
I embrace the living ether
of every soul that's flown.

The hands of living weaken
and lose with flesh the life,
as though the soul were vacant
and pow'r were in the knife!

I cannot see the life in death.
They're guarding things unreal:
the moldy flesh of beauty
which only soul can heal.

Death is but a window with light upon this side,
but light a lantern in your soul,
and you will know the life again
of those you think have died.

There's no more mystery in death
than in tomorrow night!
And midnight's never darker
than morning will be light.
