The Wave

Dark the wave keeps rising
Higher than the stars
Until everything is black
Heart screaming, 'I will be swept away'
But I do not listen to my heart

The waters engulf me
Until I cannot breathe
Crushed by the weight of mountains
'Time to die,' says my mind
But this is not the time to die

A voice says, 'Swim!'
My heart sneers and says, 'Give up'
My mind shrugs and asks, 'Why bother?'
Legs kick and arms keep pulling
Cutting through the darkness

I reach the surface
Starlight glitters on sparkling waters
The wave has passed
How am I still alive?
My spirit sings thanks and praise
