A Poem about addiction
Do you see your Child?

Do you see your child in the midst of their pain?
Standing naked, spun out, in the wind and the frigid rain.
Do you see your child drowning in their grief?
Are you going to meet them there and bring them into your relief?
Do you see your Child who is hungry and morally blind?
Or have you turned your face far from them never to find?
Do you see your child struggling looking for their next fix?
Stealing from those around them to escape the pain addiction inflicts.
Do you see your sons and daughters overwhelming the streets?
Beat and casted down by society because of deceit.
People drive by and yell the cruelest of words,
Outcasts because of sin they move into the parks in herds.
Tent after tent popping up all around,
The rest of the world is going about their days with no help to be found.
Does your child score their next fix today, shooting up in their tents?
All the while wishing to be better, but this addiction feels so permanent.
Do you see your child feeling trapped in a cage of addiction in their minds?
Hoping to feel better with their next bump of lines.
Do you see your child's eyes constantly fixed on their trauma,
Trying to numb their mental anguish with the next hit of Marijauna.
“Make my mind forget just for a little bit”.
Hoping that they feel better again after getting lit.
Do you see your child asking a stranger for change to buy their next drink,
Getting told “Fuck off , take a shower, you stink!”
Your child wonders, how this vicious cycle comes to an end?
Will I overdose from the fentanyl this time, or have to go through all of this again?
How do I help your child in the midst of all their pain?
How do I intercede to keep the needle from their vein?
How do I help you break their chains of addiction, help them to find rest?
I am requesting your help, in your child I want to invest.
How do I help to instill hope to your child?
Am I not to worry about getting defiled?
Is it as simple as showing up with love in my heart?
Is that how I do my part?
