A GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST

As I hung the last ornament
Upon the Christmas tree
I heard a tinkling of bells
But nowhere could I see

Where the sound was coming from;
Indeed, it was so light and gay -
That I wondered for a minute
If my mind had gone astray.

A feeling of love and warmth
Surrounded me just then,
And I heard my sister's voice
Just as clear once again.

My sister loved Christmas so
That it was no surprise
When I felt her presence
And could feel her eyes

Appraising the Christmas tree
And the ornaments thereon;
She touched the little cardinal
And once more, she was gone.

Yet her spirit seemed to linger
All around on Christmas day,
There are some things on earth
Death cannot take away.

Love of family is eternal
And although we have to part
There will always be a Christmas
To bring them back into our heart.
