A poem of what could have been, given the chance...
Home

Much more than
bricks and mortar,
boxing up my
bits and pieces,
accumulated through
years of living
         or not; and

much more
than an address,
a street, a town,
a house number
or a car on the drive, it’s

two glasses, an empty
bottle of wine
parked by the sink, it’s
your key in the lock,
footprints on the floor,
your name on my door, and it’s

my head in your lap, and
yours on my pillow,
two toothbrushes, side by side
in that mug
from Ireland, remember,
our very first trip? And it’s

shared memories and
holiday snaps,
pictures on the wall;
it’s the here and now,
a future together.
It’s you and I,
wherever.
