This is one of my first poems. It is about the oppressive silence in wartorn countries.
Blaring Silence

A desperate cry,
An unheard wail,
A fearful scream,
None as loud as the silence.

The crashing bombs,
The thunderous shots,
The rasping breath of the dying,
None as loud as the silence.

The cry of the abandoned baby,
The creaking of the dangling door,
The hushed conversation of men,
None as loud as the silence.

The silence before the attack,
Tensely awaiting an uncertain future.
All the sounds of war together
Are never as loud as that silence.
