NIGHT SOUNDS

It gets quiet in the country
when darkness falls
And the
moonlight is hidden
by clouds; as a hoot owl calls.

The
creatures of the night
awake and start to move, no doubt;
The deer graze out on the pasture
and the bats begin to fly about.

The noises on my front porch
are made by tiny raccoon feet,
Checking out the little crumbs;
looking for a bite to eat.

The wind moves the tree branches
making whishing sounds on the house;
Then while the cat lies sleeping,
up comes a brave brown mouse.

The hound dog starts his barking
and begins baying at the moon,
I turn off the light and listen,
morning will be here all too soon.

Just when the outside world
has settled down; it seems
That my dear husband's snoring
will interrupt my dreams!
