An Alligator's Analysis

It’s always amazing to me, yes, it is

How come all these people aren’t in show biz.

For they roam about the zoo in colors like peacocks,

With long strings of hair, bald, or in dreadlocks,

Their open mouths wag in tongue-clucking clackers.

Their feet pound by like popping firecrackers,

Their arms swing about them like wind-tossed tree limbs,

Yet none of them seem to know how to swim.

I feel almost sorry for two-legged critters

As they walk parading, their bodies a twitter.

They often stop by to look in my pool.

They almost get close enough to make me drool.

It’s true, I’d reach out for an arm or a leg

But I can’t bear to be that far from my egg,

So I bide my time and study their faces

Devoid of scales and white as pillow cases.

Poor folks, I think and yawn my teethy smile;

It’s so sad that everyone can't be a reptile.
