When we flew together, we shared our wings.
I was convinced we were two outlets
Lost somewhere in limbo
And electrocuting all the angels
Who accidentally came through and got in our way.
Sometimes you told me that you never saw eyes
Quite as bright as mine
The static rush of emotion stuck us through with a stake
And we became intertwined with the blue electricity
Shock waves undulating
They swept us up into a world
Of twilight’s mixture.

Now I seem to see,
Though still bloodshot and burning.
You’re guiding my eyes,
resonating
With the moonlit remains of silhouettes.
In awhile you’ll remember that time
We wove it together and wore it in crowns
Pretending we were the faeries of the night.

I recall that you promised
You’d slide up on a shaft from the sky
Land on your knees beside me
Together we’d go star-surfing.
It’s lonesome up here, let’s avoid the sky.
The owls croon our lullaby,
And we compare our screams to their wingspan.
If we shout long enough we’ll fly.

Now I seem to see,
Though still bloodshot and burning.
You’re guiding my eyes,
resonating
With the moonlit remains of silhouettes.
In awhile you’ll remember that time
We wove it together and wore it in crowns
Pretending we were the faeries of the night.

“My breath is coming in like a rope.”
If you tell me this years from now
I still won’t be able to pull down the sun
To light up and warm your figure
Apollo and I were never friends.
Sunshine gives me no comfort.
If I told you I was bloodthirsty
You might intoxicate me with its redness
And let me shrink myself; become your leech.
If they milked me for my poison
It would run down into the river of Acheron
And I’d be left to renew myself
Would you rejuvenate your flesh for me?
I could curl around your body and keep it warm.

I remember now, you never made an oath
The shaft gathers star-stuff and remains empty
I’ll come down for you, and land on my knees
We can explore the premature dewdrops.
We can join the wild night calls.
Let’s be faeries
Hold each other around the waist
Circle upon circle of arms; the rings of Luna
Shining down on us,
Crowning us.
We’re electric blue lights in the rainclouds.
Currents of dull grey-blue shine.
Maybe you remember?
Let’s shake the fireflies again.
