This is a poem that I wrote for creative writing class about Halloween!
The lantern was whispering
in the blustery, autumn night.
The moonlight casting shadows.
Lots of children out for a fright.

The sky was black and eerie
like a Halloween cat.
The tree limbs were bending
like a gymnast on her mat.

The sound of the howling music
pierced the night air.
While little ghosts and goblins
were trying to give a scare.

The smell of fireplace flames
keeping families warm was sweet.
You could sense the huddled coziness
as you walked along the beat.

If you listened closely, you could hear
sticks crackling beneath their feet.
As the children and parents
made shortcuts along the street.

Tricks and treats was the goal
on their minds for days.
Just reach into the bowl
and grab all that you may.

Let's survey our haul.
It's going to be great!
Can't possibly eat it all.
We'll just have to wait.

Throw away the apples,
they are not always safe.
Why do people give those?
it seems such a waste.

The evening event
is drawing to a close.
The whispering lantern
fades as the night wind blows.
