A poem I wrote when my boyfriend broke a promise he made me.
The promise you made
It gave me hope
I thought you meant it
You proved me wrong

Broken promises burn like fire
Roaring and flaming
Eyes sting in the heat
Flesh peels away

My heart is breaking
Like the promise you gave me
Slowly shattering
Scattering in the wind

Broken promises freeze like ice
Hardening the heart
Teeth chatter in the cold
As the tears freeze on the cheek

My love for you still runs deep
The current never changing
But my tears flow stronger
In the pain you’re causing

Broken promises whip like wind
Throwing emotions around
Like children’s toys to a giant
So strong, can’t hold on

I know you’re trying
I just wish it were harder
I know it’s hard
I wish it were easier

Broken promises fall like rain
Drowning the soul in torment
They pull you down
Until your breath is gone

The promise you made
It gave me hope
I thought you meant it
You proved me wrong

Your broken promises break my heart
I’m drowning in them
I can’t see or breathe
Won’t you please help me?
