A friend of mine who never ceases to fascinate me
There is doubt, that's for certain
It's not simple, nor an easy matter to explain
I know nothing about you
Yet I seem to have read you
A thousand times

A thousand times
I look at you
What runs through your mind
I seek, but cannot find
A puzzle in your eyes

A puzzle in your eyes
That one piece, it never seems to fit
Where does it go?
Maybe if I knew
I could finally understand

I could finally understand
Why your eyes always squint
As if gazing into light
Or why you make shadow puppets
While everyone else turns their back

While everyone else turns their back
You walk as if alone
Sometimes you sit beside me
I take comfort that you're there
But still I do not know

I still do not know
If you talked about me that day
I'm almost certain
But always in the dark
I find myself waiting

I find myself waiting
To see you walk over the grass
Toward me, your eyes so soft
How can I wait for someone I don't even know
I can't say I'm in love, but I do love you

I do love you...
She turns my necklace, I make a wish
My wish involves you
It's crazy, maybe even childish
But I have never been so
Utterly fascinated
As I am with you.
