A poem about taking the next step in a relationship.
Brink
By orient_celts

Standing on the brink of the cliff
Heart dangling on my sleeve
Hesitation clear on my face
This trust I cannot lay.

Can I go the distance with you?
Will you still let me grow?
Or will you hammer me down?
My heart and spirit be bound.

Few more steps and it is the yawning chasm I see
I hear the rush of whisper
They are a column of sound
A chorus of voices that does not sink.

I fear your outstretched hand,
Open, inviting, a steel trap.
Your soul cannot give me freedom,
So, I turn away.

Let me go, I lack the strength to bare my soul
I plead, do not cross the line
Because I can only give Friendship,
I realize.
