Finding oneself

The rain and thunder drounded out her cry
no one could hear her plea,
I wanted to help her with all of my might
but it was so dark i couldn’t see.
Finally I stopped and gave in to the night
there was nothing left to do,
I stood in the midst of the thickening fog
convinced my desperate search was through.
Soaked to the bone
and stripped of my pride,
I had given up in defeat,
Here somewhere in this dreadful storm
was someone who needed me.
Where the voice was coming from
I could not explain
Who she was I did not know,
but I knew that she was in pain.
Through the night I wondered about
haunted by the relentless call,
till finally the fog cleared away
and the morning revealed it all.
There standing before my eyes
a mirror was all I could see,
Here was the girl who wanted to be found
and that very girl was me.
