This came to me during an early morning while lying awake
A door opens
Beyond the threshhold what lies
I know not

I step closer
Fear grips my heart
My palms are moist
My knees shake

Dare I step through the open door
Dare I see what lies on the other side

I turn to run
A voice deep within calls
Stop - don't run
Go back - says my soul
I can not - I reply
Yes you can
No I can not
I'm afraid
Of what -asks my soul
I could not answer
I didn't know

Slowly I turned
With hesitation I walk back
I stop before the open door
Beads of sweat appear on my brow
My body begins to quake

I can't - said I
You can - replies my soul
Take a deep breath
Close your eyes
Step through the open door

I took a deep breath
I closed my eyes
I stepped through the open door

Warmth, love and beauty
Did I find
When at last I opened my eyes
Twas God's own garden
That lie beyond the threshhold
Of the open door
