THE NIGHT THE RAINS CAME

A trickle at first, on the windowpane -
gathering speed and intensity;
I closed the blinds
but could not stop the beat
of the pellets of sleet
bursting through the night air
and bouncing off the glass -

Alas, it was a night of evil
drowning all the living things;
a rushing, crushing, pushing torrent
that knew no boundries,
- only pain.
I felt the fear of the unknown,
as I sat huddled in my chair
Waiting for the rains to cease
and feeling sadness everywhere..

Years have passed, some have forgotten
the loss of life and loss of hope;
Avenging, we move onward -
to rebuild - to beat the odds
and to regain what we had lost
the night the rains came..
to tear apart all we had built up,
watching as it was swept away;
The dawn has come -
a new beginning...
