greed and old men

Rattlesnakes and Men

A Rattlesnake oozes death from it's shady rock covered den

Like the evil that creeps out of the pores of all greedy,

self centered and conceited men

looking for the cheapest of the cheap deals

but too old and worn out to know when to stop

acting like the children they envy and despise

because of the blue and sublime youth in their eyes

while looking for a greener cemetary plot,

not enough money made to be stacking,

half a shopping bag full of cash is not a lot

of compassion for anyone down and out,

not knowing themselves what their life was about and

to become from their wayward ways

what they are today.

They had to say they couldn't apologize

for the things they had done and didn't realize

until it was too late to turn around

and go back the way they had come

so this would end their life long quest

for riches, sex and power more or less

of a man would have made his peace with God

and not wavered in the twilight of dawn

under the fading street lights in a city

where they had been bred for the lies

and the deceit of all other men!
