Children's poem about the coming of night.
Lady Night and Her Dress of Tiny Stars
By: Casey Allison Crumby

I always wondered where the night comes from
When its time for the fading of the blazing sun

Coming towards me from a distant land
Charging towards the seas and sugar sands

When night’s soft shadow slinks over the hill
Bringing nighttime breezes and icy chills

All fall to dream about something sweet
Fading into a restful and wonderful deep sleep

Across the mountains and into the valleys
Cloaking stray cats in the deserted alleys

The sunlight closes its sleepy eyes
And something new reigns over skies

Lady Night has come to dance from afar
Wearing her dark dress of tiny stars

Twirling, twirling in twilight mist
Around red roses so dew-dropped kissed

Moonlight skips across the ground
As Lady Night dances all around

Sparkling lakes and magic oceans
Give Lady Night a quick notion

“Maybe I can skate across this water’s top to somewhere far away
And maybe go to China or Chile, Miami or Bombay!”

So off she goes to somewhere so far away
Dancing across the sleeping bays

Lady Night sits with the grinning moon
Knowing that the sun will rise up soon

So every moment is precious to her
To watch as twilight things occur

Far off somewhere a clock strikes three
“I must carry on quickly,” says she.

“Soon the sun will rise and come to greet me
And I’ll have to go till the coming of tomorrow’s dreams”

So in her final hours, she bids goodbye to all
Skipping across the world until the dawn calls

And then Lady Night fades at the coming of the light
And goes to some distant land until tomorrow night

When she may return from a land so very far
And work her nighttime magic over our land in her dress of tiny stars.
