Children's poem set in the summer in a garden of daisies.
Tea with Madeleine
By: Casey Allison Crumby

Sweet summer tea brings a lovely time
To sip from buttercups and taste sweet honey
With our dear friend Madeleine.

For sipping tea with Madeleine on Sunday afternoons
Is just as lovely as the garden
Where we watch the daisies bloom.

As time passes the day in such a wonderful way
We sip our sweet tea by white daisies
While they softly sway.

May is the loveliest month of the season
For that is when the daisies bloom
And give our party a reason -

To be held today near the daisies
After winter has melted its glassy covers
And we sit by the water oak so shady.

Things have now grown, and become anew
In this dear and lovely Spring today
That brings sweet morning dew.

But this bright day, Miss Madeleine and I
Listen to the wind chimes sound
As winter bids its last goodbye.

The last great chill has left this place to us
So we may sip our tea and taste sweet honey
Full of laughter without any rush.

We sip our sweet tea by the cherub fountain
As we laugh about the perching birds
That came from snow-capped mountains.

How they flit about in the warm blue sky
And sing about the place they love
As we give our happy reply -

“Where are you going, you sweet singing birds of May?
That perch upon the poplar trees
As you visit us today?”

But on they fly into the sky so broad and deep and blue -
To some great and wonderful place beyond
And they bid us all adieu.

Now it’s time for us to taste the honey, so wonderfully sweet
That Madeleine brought for us today
For an after tea time treat.

We each take a spoonful and taste the sweet confection
Made by bees in the meadows
To this fantastic perfection.

Of all the days of the year, I love May’s coming
When I can sip sweet tea with Madeleine
And hear the crickets humming.

At the closing of the light of the loveliest day
Madeleine, my favorite friend, and I
Finally have to say -

“Goodbye my friend and goodbye my daisies so white
This day has ended and I absolutely enjoyed
Tasting honey and sipping sweet tea in the summer’s light."
