A light-hearted poem incorporating aspects of epistemology
I stepped out on the landing
of that large demanding chat
And found that I was standing
Upon the neighbor's cat.
Sense perception heard it shriek
Induction was also there
This seemed to happen every week,
So my emotions didn't care.

Ethically, I removed my foot
from the kitten's head
I could have left it there in pain
But petted it instead.
A moral relativist,
it bit me on the hand
I suppose that it was justified,
but still I'm not a fan.

I left the cat alone
And continued with my day
I trudged to the museum
Where children like to play.
A certain confused little girl
Asked me, "what is art?"
I replied with absolute certainty,
"that which moves the heart."

"The heart is but an organ
used to pump the blood,
commonly misconceived
to be the origin of love.
It cannot be 'moved'
As you're trying to assert;
It's incapable of jealousy,
pride, happiness, or hurt."

I fell back in defense,
Shocked by her retort.
The language quite offended me!
I answered her in short:
"The mind is trapped by fences
it makes its own reality;
I believe I'm relying on consensus
and you on some authority."
