CHAINS
SUKAINA MOHSIN ALI

Why do we always,
Hurt the ones we love most?
Burn the very bridges which connect us,
Why are we so intent,
On destroying ourselves?
Why do we build invisible boundries,
Lines on the map of the world,
Labels like sunni & shia,
Differentiating on the basis of colour, class and creed?
Boundries in our minds,
The walls of which are so high,
That the world seems scary without them.
When will we realise that these walls,
Do not protect us,
But separate us, divide us, weaken us
Have we thrown away the keys,
To the locks which chain us?
Is there any hope,
For one who kicks himself where it hurts most,
Who riddles himself with bullets,
Who cries for help,
Yet turns a deaf ear?
You know the end is near,
When the weak flame of hope,
Flickers ……and dies.
The flame is burning,
Buffeted continuously,
Its up to us,
To fan it or pour water onto it.
