Written long ago after breaking up with the man I thought would be my husband one day.

{c} "Your Memory"

Just yesterday as I sat staring out the window at the field across the road
thinking of all the wonderful walks we had there,
I could feel your presence beside me.
I could feel your strong steady hand on my back,
giving me support and strength.
I could feel the long muscular legs by my side,
the legs that once chased me through that very field.
I could feel the silky brown hair
that I so often ran my fingers through lovingly.
I could feel those tender eyes
searching my face for the smile you so often put there.
I could feel the warmth of your breath
that so often sent chills down my spine
while you gently whispered, " I love you" in my ear.
I could feel those sensitive lips
that so often brushed my cheek,
with a smile following after as bright as sunshine.
And when I turned to be held in those arms
that so often held me safe and warm
from all the world;
all I found was a shadow.
          A shadow of a memory
deeply tucked away
in a corner of my heart to never be forgotten.
And all those things I felt,
your hand, your smile, your hair, your eyes, and you
was only a flicker of a deep hidden memory
to be remembered again tomorrow
as I sit staring out the window
at the field across the road
thinking of all the wonderful walks we had there.
