What else but a poem about disappointment and unrequited like?
How do you make those words flow,
resonating in my ears
about your pain,
your search,
your failure,
(and even your hope),
in love.
You're looking for an original...
a girl who isn't staring into your eyes,
but looking into your heart.
You're looking for a girl
you may never find...
she's brave enough, smart enough,
witty enough... and yes,
even pretty enough.
I'm not that girl,
but I ache for you to see me anyway.
I'm not always brave, smart or pretty...
But I'm real and I
know the pain in your voice,
for it has been my own.
And so I wait,
through the scraping of chairs against the floor,
and the bustle of people
back to their everyday lives.
And I watch,
as a face far prettier than my own
catches your attention,
and as you're talking to her
I wonder...
is she really the girl you
were looking for
or were you singing lies?
