STORMY NIGHT

Echo of memories haunting my dreams,
I awake with a strange shiver of dread;
A mystical silence, a shadow of branches
from the window plays havoc in my head.

I do not fear the black darkness of night
but any peace will soon begin to shatter,
as the flash of lightning brightens the room,
and the wind causes the shutters to clatter.

The deepened red of the moon last night
may have foretold and warned of a storm;
yet I never thought that the heat of the day
would be lost and this sleepless night form.

Such a stormy night comes so unexpected
and though there are some who find delight
in the flashes of lightning and loud thunder,
I endure it, and wait for early dawn's light.
