We must be more careful with each other
I love you more than life itself
I wish to place you on a shelf
Away from pain, from hurt, from lies
Away from what makes you sad inside

I am so afraid that you will break
That extra care with you I take
But before too long my grasp may slip
And in this life you stumble and trip

And now I wonder if it’s my fault
If I let you be, would ever you fall?
My intent was not to hurt you more
For you are the one that I adore

So now I see I cannot protect you
I cannot hide, nor correct you
I can only watch as time goes by
For I make things worse if ever I try

But in the end it’s not so bad
And my anxious thoughts turn into glad
For none of us come out unscathed
For the stuff we are made of is human clay
