vespers, 93 degrees. It's 50 in La Paz, Bolivia, where my friend Gastón Aráoz is from, with a predicted low of 26! Hello, Winter!

Saw Gastón an hour ago. We talked about St. John's Day. In Bolivia they make bonfires on the longest night of the year. Same as in Sweden where his grandmother is from. There of course the night is short. I wrote a poem for Gastón when he graduated in May from university. He is fluent in German also. It is wonderful to meet people from all over the globe! The poem is called 'the tree of graduation'.

early afternoon, 94 degrees, 98 humidex. 85 in Naples, Florida where my friend Danut lives. Here it is sunny; there, there's a threat of storms.

Added three poems I wrote for and about people I've met at the University of Kansas. I'm off to the Union now to eat and relax. Get me away from this keyboard!

noon, 91 degrees, humidex 97. 59 in Monroe, Washington where my sister Shelley lives. Now that's cool!

Managed to do some reviews, but this afternoon need to edit and write. Can I edit and have a life?

Had to ask Jimmy to turn down music. He plays games, plays music, visits chat rooms and web cams. Which is fine, except this is a university library and some folks are doing serious work. But ... not all :) Is it unreasonable to expect quiet in a library these days?

Persuant to that thought: yesterday my nerves were totally shot. I am around alot of boisterous, stumbling, joking people. Usually, I fail to see the humor. Loud noises especially bother me. Today, I'm doing somewhat better.

morning, 82 degrees here. Hello to cousin Barbara Reynolds in Petal, Mississippi, where it's 80.

Stray thoughts on this First day of Mercy:
My back is doing better after Diane Elder adjusted the backpack's straps, hugs to her; the mouse at this computer is behaving today. Maybe my threats of a cat-attack were taken seriously; Conversation directed to me: "Who kicked his wheels and bent his spokes?" said by Robin regarding Hub, who was dressed as a man-in-black on a day that may hit 95; I stuck around for a cup of Hazelnut coffee this morning. Thanks, Brad!
