Christians Dealing with Crisis
"Christians Dealing with Crisis

Today's blog entry is by Rhoswen - Relentless Victory .

"Before I became a Christian and turned my life over to God, I often wondered how Christians would cope if they had to survive everything I’d survived in my life. Many counselors have told me that most folks wouldn’t have survived everything I’ve survived – at least not and still be functional. Even now, I can see their point.

Now that I am a Christian however, I know not only how I survived, but Who sustained me through everything. It could only be God. It could only be someone so powerful that not even death could gain victory.

This brings me to my topic for today. When we as Christians face crisis, how do we cope? What strategies do we have at our disposal that is so powerful? I can’t speak for every Christian, however I can speak for myself and what methods I use to cope when I feel like everything is falling apart.

My first step is to pray. Prayer is an open line of communication between God and me, between Father and daughter. I like to refer to it as the original wireless connection. When things aren’t going the way I think they should, I pray for guidance. I pray for wisdom. I pray for understanding. And I ask my Father to help me accept whatever the outcome is because I know that whatever He does, He has my best interests in mind.

Another method I use is praise. I believe this has had more of an influence on how I make it through hard times than any other method I might employ. I praise God for answered prayers. I praise God that He saved me. I praise God for each day I wake up. I can always find something to praise Him for.

But I try to take this a step further and praise Him for answered prayers even before my natural eyes can see it. For instance, when I was dealing with my car being broke down and not having the money to fix or replace it, I praised God for the ability to fix my car or the ability to replace my car even though I couldn’t see it. And true to His Word, within about six weeks, my prayers were answered and my car was fixed. Who says prayer doesn’t work? I believe that praising God for the desired outcome in this case actually helped my prayers to be answered.

Praise and worship music is really good with putting us in the right mindset to praise God for His blessings and open our hearts to what He has to say. It reminds us of His love for us. It brings us back to Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross and how we are saved through faith in Him.

One awesome way to help me in a crisis is to read my Bible and concentrate on God’s Word rather than my own situation. It takes the focus off me, off my problem…and puts my focus where it should be – on my Problem Solver. And it allows me to listen to Him – to receive guidance from Him to keep me on the right path.

Think on these things the next time you find yourself in a situation that seems impossible. Remember, our God is the God of the impossible – impossible is just another way of God saying, “I’m possible!””
