Fun Fact Friday: Fandom and Poems
Friday, July 21, 2017

On this day in 1989, Spike Lee's film, Do the Right Thing, opens in theaters.

The Fun Fact Friday for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS
On this day in 2007, the seventh book of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was released. Ok guys...let's hear all about your Potter fandom *Laugh*. And if for some reason you're like me and never got into the series, tell us why.

I have the distinction of being among the 1% of the population that has never read a Harry Potter book or watched one of the movies. This doesn't mean I don't have an opinion; what it does mean is that I will give every character in the book (including the villains) the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure that whatever the characters' motives, they were logical according to the character background and goals.

***

I was cleaning out the bottom left drawer of my computer desk and found the following poem. I wrote them sometime in 1996 or 1997.

Spiders

Crawling
on eight legs
the jet black arachnid,

ascends
vertebra by vertebra
my spine.

Spinning
its microscopic web
the hour-glass marked widow,

descends
chilblain by chilblain
my back.

It's obvious that whatever inspired these poems was stressful, but I can't remember the inspiration or what was so stressful during those years to inspire the poems.

Chasing Tornadoes

Hail-stones the size of tennis balls
strike the ground around me.

Ahead the funnel twirls
beckoning seductively.

In t his single spot of
matter and energy
via material and spiritual reality.
