PROMPT March 2nd

What kinds of things do you like to cook or are good at cooking?
What are your comfort foods?

Cook? Anything I can grab. I sometimes measure ... not always. I live alone so yesterday it was shiitake fish soup. *Bigsmile* When I entertained ... ages ago ... I made a very colorful layered shrimp salad. As a teenager I loved to bake pie.

Comfort? Comfort *sigh* can be most anything.

When I was sick as a child my father would prepare milktoast. On Sundays he would cook pancakes.

I always looked forward to my mother making fudge or making pinwheels out of flank steak.

My grandmother's fresh baked bread or split-pea soup.

The image of my uncle and cousin making fat burgers to grill comes to mind.

Buttered parsley potatoes at school.

Food takes me to other times and places.

On my travels: brunost in Norway, seafood and pasteis in Portugal, gallo pinto in Costa Rica, hot yams in Taiwan, burek in Serbia, pelmenid in Estonia.

At home it can simply be a peanut butter sandwich dunked in milk. Chocolate can calm me. And coffee, always coffee.
