Ten Years Plus One

PROMPT March 19th

How are you different now than you were in the year 2010? What have been the most significant changes in your life in the last ten years?

I’ve been keeping track of things that happen in my life. Accidents, surgeries, babies, new addresses, jobs, that sort of things.

So since 2010, we moved from Gardiner, MT to Roundup, MT. We gave up the job in a motel as managers to a home with no jobs. We retired. From a pretty good gig with housing and an income for nine months to no income but social security. But our house is paid for.

I had a car accident when we first moved here. Not serious, but still an accident. Then last fall I hit a deer. Little bugger. Annoying but still another accident.

I was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September of 2012. Now that was a life changer. We dealt with that in Gardiner. I spent the winter of 2013 recuperating from the surgery. But you know, somehow you figure things out and go on. I was blessed that it was a benign tumor. In Roundup I had an incident where I hit my head on a fence walking the dog in 2018. That you wouldn’t think would be a big deal. But when you have metal plates in your head, it can complicate things. I developed a spinal fluid leak which required more brain surgery. So I go back in the hospital to repair that leak behind my right eye. Heck of a deal. Two brain surgeries. But they were both successful.

Last year I had cataract surgery on both eyes. So now after wearing glasses for over fifty years, I only have to wear reading magnifying glasses. So liberating to not have to grab the glasses first thing in the morning.

As I list all these accidents and surgeries, I am amazed at God’s grace in my life. There have also been many births, grandchildren. But also the death of my father, my husband’s mother and father.

So this Covid-19 mess is just a bump in the road as far as I am concerned. I’ve been through a lot worse.
