Who's your hero?
September 13 Prompt: Who do you see as role model of yours, either a professional or 'everyday' person, and why should everyone else know about this person?

Let's start with my dad, as I suppose many folks might also name their own father. I've mentioned him before, either as a 'solo act' or in tandem with my mom, and how I've learned from him. My habitual behaviours stem from things he's told me, as well as things he's shown me (intentionally or not). I try to treat others with courtesy and show politeness, because I saw him do it all the time. I try to construct sentences that are grammatically correct. In fact, my youngest daughter presented me with a coffee mug, on which the words "Grammar Police: To Serve & Correct" are emblazoned on three scrolls. One of my dad's happiest moments came from catching Wm. F. Buckley, Jr. in an error. *Laugh*

My more controversial role model would be Jesus Christ. Setting aside any debate regarding His historicity and/or Divinity, I believe the way He lived to be more than worthy of emulation. The late Dr. Walter Martin, Christian apologist and founder of the Christian Research Institute once described an ongoing debate he had with a very learned rabbi. They would meet up once a week where Dr. Martin was speaking and, after the presentation, exchange views. During what appears to be their final encounter, Dr. Martin asked the rabbi what he thought about Jesus. The rabbi replied that he thought Jesus to be a very wise man, exceptionally knowledgeable regarding the Torah, and so on.

"So, you think he's a great teacher, someone a person should listen to?"

"Oh, yes - absolutely! He's the best!"

Dr. Martin then asked, "If He's so much smarter than any of us, then why should I listen to you instead of Him?" Apparently, the rabbi had no reply.

Sadly, I'm less successful than I would like to be in following either of these men, but I believe they both present a clear path.
