Review of Size Matters
Review by Writer_Mike

Looks like this word search was just the right size. You had enough longer words, or word combinations, to ensure a decent-size grid, which allowed the system to get truly creative in placing random and completely useless letters. *Laugh* Best of all, refreshing the page yields a whole new layout, letting the participant "play" as many times as may be desired without having the same form appear over and over.

Well, things turned out better for Lily than I originally thought they would. I had envisioned her getting swept into the cupboard and stuck behind the Lazy-Susan.

Did she learn anything from this experience? Possibly, but maybe not. All those cute critter movies notwithstanding, our pets really aren't in a position to either hire a lookout or a taller dog. *Laugh*

Ah, mi querida amiga, sé lo difícil que es aprender un nuevo idioma. *Left* My original lead-in, calling on decades-old high school Spanish, had many of the same words, but... Anyway, you are to be commended not only on your desire to acquire the ability to communicate with a different segment of your community, but also for taking so many different routes in your quest for fluency. I can understand you feeling guilty about the Spanish Sunday School class, but I don't think you should beat yourself up about it. After all, you were still hearing and reading the Word.

Thanks for sharing your story!

I knew fourteen of them right off the bat. Three others nearly elicited smacks to the forehead, as in "I should have known or remembered him / her!" The rest required some straightforward research. The identity of the answer to 24 Across, however, turned out to be unexpectedly difficult to unearth. I'm not at all saying this is a bad puzzle; it's just one of those "you know 'em or you don't" situations. Thanks for setting it up.

Review of Missing You

Hi! Just dropping by with a review.

This is a sweet poem about someone missing a loved one. The last stanza seems to hint at a permanent loss, but it's not a certainty. The speaker reminisces about how it feels to have present so they can share that experience. The tenderness of their interactions comes through clearly in your words. Again - a very sweet poem. Thanks for sharing it.

Review of The Crevice
Review by Writer_Mike
In affiliation with Positive Hearts Reviews Group
Rated: E | (5.0)
Hi! I thought I'd drop by with a review for you.

Setting: A crevice somewhere in a house. It holds a number of common items and is apparently just large enough to allow access.

Climax: That pesky remote has been retrieved!

Favorite bit(s): "...single stray striped straw...pilling and polished pennies." I could barely read the alliterations - even silently - without stumbling over them. *Rolling*

A completely relatable tale about items that go missing inside some small gap. It doesn't matter if it's between a couch and a wall, if it's in a hole where two pieces of furniture meet; everyone likely has someplace like that in their home. I know I do, and generally won't be bothered to move stuff, unless it's mission critical (a TV remote would qualify). Thanks for sharing this!

Hi! Just dropping by with a little review for you.

I like how your poem prompts the reader to view things from different perspectives. Some of the viewpoints require a change of attitude; others suggest looking at what might be termed the reverse side of the same coin (the sunset, for instance). My favourite stanza is the one with the spider and its web. Thank you for sharing this with us.

This reminds me a bit of the parole board scene in Shawshank Redemption. Red wanted out, but realized it wasn't really up to him. Sparrow wants out, but realizes he's likely much better off in prison than likely facing at least the immediate prospect of a terrific struggle simply to survive. He's knows himself well enough to realize he'll probably just wind up back inside anyway, so he chooses not to press the issue.

An interesting twist on an inmate's view of the parole process. Thanks for sharing it with us.

This poem is a great example of not only the basic sacrifice made by all who have served in uniform, that of being far away from family and friends, but also the ultimate sacrifice paid by so many servicemen and -women. There are any number of battlefields upon which this soldier could have fallen, and the poem serves to cover them all regardless of actual location or time frame.

Suggestion: You may want to add "I" to the second line of the last verse, so that it actually reads "you and I are free today." It's up to you; it wasn't until my third time through the poem that my mind's eye quit inserting it. That being said, the awardicon that graces this item is well-deserved. Congratulations on the win, and thank you for sharing this. *Salute*

Ah - yet another somewhat tolerated cat-human. The range of vocalizations that can be employed by the amazing, self-cleaning feline is truly impressive and, over time, can be correctly interpreted by the cat's human. Until such time as that understanding is reached, of course, kitty landmines more than suffice to let the human know that it has failed at yet another task.

I love cat tales that showcase the give and take inherent in the cat-human relationship. Well done!

Review of Lie to Me

Yes, the truth can be hurtful. What pain the narrator must have suffered, having been presented with a most unpleasant truth from such a varied group of people. Each of them could have chosen to spare the poor man, but instead took what was to them the more honorable path. Judging by his last words, he has been deeply wounded and, if so injured again, will care nothing for protestations of 'honor'.

It appears the narrator is a proponent of 'little white lies', as are many of us. Certainly a case can be made for causing a minor scrape in order to avoid inflicting a major injury. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Poor Orthodontia! Her satchel of dream dust has gone missing, her wings are taking a beating, and she barely avoids some face time with a local spider. She may have graduated from the flight academy, but it seems to me her "This is how you do Tooth Fairy stuff" instruction was on the weak side. She should have a word with the chief instructor about that.

All in all, a cute tale about a rookie fairy just trying to get through her first day on the job. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Hey, there, I'm here with a review for you.

I thought this was a novel and clever way to compare what seems to be a budding relationship with attempting to negotiate a roundabout. The stop and go nature of both activities comes right through including, sadly, our narrator forced into missing his exit and losing out on making a connection. Thanks for sharing this!

Hi, there! I dropped by to leave you a review and found this tiny tale [a, at, el, et, ale, ate, eat, lat, let, late].

I always enjoyed Alpha-Bits and I like making anagrams, as shown above, so this was a fun read for me. I thought you had an interesting take on a great game / pastime, and I also learned a word: bate. It's not specified anywhere, but I'd guess this was an entry for the Dialogue 500; I hope you did well. Thanks for sharing this.

BTW, I got a good chuckle out of the folder's name, Flash Cubes. I'd wager there's a statistically significant percentage of WDC'ers who have no idea what those were, to say nothing of their ever having actually used one.

Ah, yes, good ol' Heisenberg and the Uncertainty Principle (aka the Butterfly Effect). Heaven only knows what all has been changed by Professor Jenkins' tinkering. We know he started out with a cat, but ended up with a dog, so he was obviously as affected by the timeline changes as everyone else. One has to wonder, if the cat's original name was Schrödinger, or even if his 'original' pet was even a cat.

Thanks for sharing this with us!

Hi, I'm here with a review for "I Write in 2024.

If you really could invent a preprogrammed car repair robot, I would gladly join the line of prospective buyers that would surely form. What I know about car repairs would easily fit in a small pamphlet and, although I trust my local car repair facility, it would be nice to have a skilled and reliable repairman on hand at a moment's notice (and without having to pay for a tow or the inevitable labor charges). I'm also fairly certain that, if you could invent such a thing in the first place, including Transformer capability would be child's play. Just make sure you've programmed the GPS coordinates to the nearest Advance Auto Parts, AutoZone or Repco shop in their onboard memory, and your repair problems are a thing of the past!

You say you would reimagine yourself, be better able to get along with people. You know yourself best, but I've never had a problem with you. Of course, I've never been trapped in an elevator with you either, so... The young lady you mentioned has apparently benefited from her dad's fame and resulting public life, and it's great she carries herself so well. I'm not familiar with his band, although I've heard of it.

Making the best possible use of the time available to us is a much better option than hoping for time travel. As you point out, Time is too fragile to change. Any number of time travel-related novels point out the horrible consequences of the 'butterfly effect', enough that we can't count on a Star Trek-like ending.

Thanks for sharing this!

Art Linkletter had a TV show called "Kids Say the Darndest Things!". These days, they could call it "Kids Learn the Darndest Things!" I, too, think it's important for family values to be passed on, and it would be great if schools and families were always on the same page, values-wise. Sadly, this is often not the case. Parents sue school districts because of the curriculum, school districts sue parents for interfering with the curriculum. It's ridiculous and more than a little sad. Hopefully, as you point out, both sides will find a way to keep the children's best interests in mind.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

Family gatherings can range from very pleasant through awkward all the way down to extremely unpleasant; it looks like this one was somewhere in the middle, maybe edging toward unpleasant. Like the hubby said, his mom is going to push her cooking, even though she may prefer her daughter-in-law to be thinner and to take better care of herself. It looks like at least mom and daughter-in-law would benefit from getting together to discuss things.
This scenario undoubtedly plays out in innumerable households around the world. Thanks for bringing us a bit of this one.

I read your poem, and it made me sad and a little angry. People set out to simply enjoy Nature, but others have basically set a trap for them by leaving a situation where a fire can start, perhaps spontaneously. The very sad, but true, part comes when you mention those who died being, perhaps, more fortunate than those who survived but with horrible scars and pain. That part is very true, as well as is the swiftness with which a grass fire can grow and spread.

I can't say I enjoyed reading this - the topic doesn't really allow for that - but I appreciate you sharing it.

Well, this was some crossword puzzle. It's fortunate you presented so many characters; it allowed for more cross-points than usual, which assisted me in solving it. Unfortunately for me, I had to resort to some creative Googling to get to the characters with whom I'm unfamiliar: Moon Knight, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Punisher and Echo, to name a few. They're perfectly good choices for your puzzle, I just didn't know about them.

Hi! Dropping by with an I Write in 2024 review!

You've acquired some cool life skills in embroidery and knitting; I certainly remember embroidered tablecloths. I would imagine it would "only" take a little dedicated time to relearn what has faded through disuse, and it's a real shame about that sweater. I think I've always been fairly good at listening, and certainly hesitate to offer advice. As Gandalf said, "Even the very wise cannot see all ends." Also, I'm sure I'm not the only one here who can identify with the cupboard scenario. Thanks for sharing this!

Probjective? Plobjective? ??? It's depressing how long it took to figure out 1 Down. It's not rocket science (literally not - rocket science has too many letters and isn't a POV). I had to look up the Dresden author, but I've seen Dune on shelves everywhere, and anyone who doesn't know the Ring-writer, R & J's penner or that master lightsaber wielder probably hasn't spent enough time at the library. Hi, Jeff! A little review for I Write in 2024 for you.

I can't even fathom working three jobs. You do what you have to do but, as you've discovered, there actually is a limit. You had to-do lists to guide you, so it's seems fairly clear that it's possible to be organized and still be overwhelmed. I'm glad you've been able to cut back, so you can better direct your energies. Your last line reminds me of Major Winchester's attitude toward surgery when he was assigned to the 4077th M*A*S*H: "I do one thing, I do it well, and I move on."

Hello! I'm dropping by with a review!

A tip of the cap to you, ma'am! What a wonderful and novel way for a young child to deal with one of the most visible side-effects of cancer and/or its treatment. Your inspirational story shows Carolina's marvelous strength and courage to not let the dread disease get the best of her.

I only see two little things you may want to correct (or not - it's totally your call): there's a space between Carolina and the comma in the sentence where she answers the "What happened to your curls?" question and, when Miss Dunphy Yelled, it should probably be just yelled. Again - any changes you make are entirely up to you. Thank you for sharing this with us!

Hi! I'm here with a review for you!

I really like this little tale of sunlight using a window to enter a room. The beam moves slowly and steadily, illuminating everything it touches, whether mundane or special. A comfortable chair, a well-crafted wooden desk and various papers all feel its caress. Eventually, it reaches what are likely the two most important objects in the room: a picture of a young girl, and a paper bearing a wise saying. The sunbeam finally completes its journey and the room is left as it was.

Besides the quote, the part I liked best was revealing the paper's eventual effect on the paper. Thanks for sharing this.
