Rock Climbing

Rather you than me, buddy,
with my boots all scuffed and muddy,
but yours precarious,
with cleats so various,
perched upon a ledge,
indeed, the very edge,
the only thing that’s holding
‘gainst life’s complete unfolding,
your slender means of ascent,
or slip and swift descent.
