Invitation to Death

Beginnings 4/11

The invitation just appeared in my inbox with the rest of the day's mail. No postage. No return address. Just a request to attend a weekend getaway, four days, three nights, at a bed and breakfast. If I remained for said amount of time I would be paid $5000. There was a brochure describing the manor with a map.

If I chose to accept I was to meet a van leaving my hotel on Monday morning. Inside my invite was a handwritten note assuring me the van would be properly equipped to accomodate my special needs. I didn't need acommodations. I could easily hop into a vehicle and pull my chair in behind me. Losing my legs twenty years ago in Desert Storm was not an inconvenience to anyone except me.

My publisher had been after me to write something new. Four days in a B&B might give me the time and inspiration. Besides, the hotel wouldn't let me renew my room again. Something about having to cutt up my credit cards....
