Before the end of this line

I could sit on these tracks
waiting for some train to come
I could dream all day that those I love
would wake up and acknowledge me
but both would be but a waste of time
and what life there is
would still lie there in front of me
somewhere down a dusty path
before the end of this line.

I could walk it,
given time,
each step propelling me away from my past ...
never look back.

But, I'll sit awhile and ponder first.

Is that sound I hear a vibration from my future?
Nope.
Just some truck and a far-off cloud of dirt.

My life

It was 77 at 2 in the morning; 64 at 2 in the afternoon. The storms hit hard early in the morning and we went from fire alert to flood alert. It is wet and Spring-like and gloomy.

Spoke to Elizabeth Berghout at the campanile. Caught the concert.

My friend Ray made me a ham and swiss sandwich for me today. I'll be apartment sitting until the 22nd, starting tomorrow.

My Sabres won 5-4 over the Rangers, so family and friends are celebrating. They play Ottawa next.

Yellow-green lichen on the sycamore; cool breeze beneath a glowering sky; bells; pebbly surface of the stone bench; green green grass; stones, mud and puddles; yawning to the birdsong and the weight of a humid day.

A young squirrel holding its hands to chest looking down at me from its perch in the greening old oak tree.
