Wheel of Fortune

As a Scorpio, I can well claim the Queen of Cups, regina di anfore, as my significator card. From the Sola Busca tarot...I love this potent image...note the wheel of fortune at the bottom right of the card. The card represents" a nurturing female, a healer, a gentle poet of intuitive insights..."....in my finer moments this is what I hope to be.

Today is Father's Day...my mother-in-law tells me it is 150 days from the death of my husband's father. She marks the calendar daily.

A poem for Murray...our first Father's Day without him.


Father's Day 2007

In summer,
he taught me to draw,
right-hand, left-hand,
colored pencil labyrinths
to balance the world.
He could sit so still,
spine carefully aligned,
squirrels ate from his hands,
their furry fingers
making mudras from the crumbs.

You cannot get lost
in a labyrinth,
in to the center, and out.
But Alzheimer tangles
are a maze
of unscaleable walls.

In summer
the squirrels have forgotten
all the winter places.
They do not come to me,
my stars are not aligned.
I give them a poor communion,
tiny cairns of crackers and sourdough,
a final benediction.
